With reference to your Despatch No. 423
of the 11th. of December last, I have the honour to submit the accompanying plans and estimate for the construction of Magazines &c., at Green Island to replace the existing Gun- powder Depot at Stonecutters Island, and to inform you that
in the Estimates for next year I am making provision for
beginning the work should it meet with your approval.
losure 1.
Bone Losure 2 30th July, 1908.
2.
The total estimated cost is $107,000 in
round figures which is very much larger than the estimate
do given in my Despatch No. 473 of the 27th. of October last.
When the latter estimate was frmed it was
considered that a much smaller building would suffice for the
storage of explosives. The larger accommodation which it is
now found necessary to provide in order to meet the increasing
demand for storage space, renders necessary some reclamation
which is the principal cause of the enhanced estimate.
3.
You will observe from the statement ac-
companying the plans that the accommodation in cubic feet
will be less in the proposed Magazines than what is afforded
Magazines
by the existing Depôt. But the arrangement of the proposed THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE
COLONIES.
